Unconfirmed: Ukraine started using a new type of attack drones – Technology Org

According to some recent rumors, Ukraine already uses a new type of attack drone, possibly the American Phoenix Ghost.

Several media channels have published a video illustrating the defeat of two Russian anti-aircraft missile systems. Furthermore, both platforms were hit during the same attack, although the exact number of attacking Ukrainian drones or their types is not known.

Analysts from Defense Express stated that according to the video footage, large angles of attack can be noted, with a peak angle close to 70-80 degrees. This value is unattainable for most existing kamikaze drones due to their specific aerodynamic characteristics.

The above fact about the steep attack angle allows for the assumption that here we see the result of the attack accomplished using a new type of UAV.

Experts also note that vertical attacks are particularly difficult to defend against. It is quite possible that the drone we are talking about is the Phoenix Ghost, developed and manufactured by Californian company Aevex Aerospace.

This UAV has a maximum range of around 40 kilometers (25 miles) and can fly up to 6 hours, circling over the designated mission area, and waiting for the target to emerge.

The US military assistance package which included 1,100 Phoenix Ghost drones was announced on November 4, 2022. Considering this time frame, these UAVs should have already reached Ukraine, and are probably used in combat missions on a wide scale.
