To repair HMMWV multi-purpose tactical transport, the US Army uses three individual repair vehicles. But Ukrainian soldiers needed an all-in-one solution, and now they have a fully operational model.
This mobile workshop is based on the concept created by a Ukrainian volunteer Ihor Simutin, who has a lot of experience working with Humvees. He was the author of the idea to develop such a vehicle for field repairs of damaged military transport.
Ihor also prepared a complete specification of technical requirements and a draft project with detailed definitions of required equipment, working parameters, and placement locations.
Later, Simutin presented his vision to the Ukrainian Army and experts from the US At first, Ukrainian engineer was told that according to his specifications, at least three different vehicles are required. But the author of the idea insisted that everything needs to be combined in a single “package” in order to meet real-world battlefield conditions.
The result of this persistence is a fully operational mobile workshop that is already in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In total there are two units handed over to Ukraine, with four more planned to arrive by the end of this year.
A single mobile workshop of this kind costs €320,000 to build. It is based on MAN truck chassis, and an additional equipment container is carried on a trailer. The platform has its own crane and can provide technical service to several light military vehicles at the same time.
The biggest advantage of this mobile repair platform is its mobility. Right after repairs are completed, it swiftly moves to a new location.
