Ukraine says it trusts SpaceX to continue providing Starlink internet connectivity. However, the country is also looking for alternatives.
Early last month Starlink experienced outages in Ukraine which was a clear sign that it is risky for the country’s military forces and critical infrastructure to rely on a single internet provider.
Elon Musk recently has assured that his company SpaceX will provide access to Starlink services for Ukraine. Ukraine’s deputy prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov said yesterday that Ukraine is maintaining direct contact with Musk and that the country is confident that Starlink will continue providing services in its territory.
Fedorov also noted that after the Russian attacks damaged 40% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the issue of maintaining stable internet connectivity became even more important. This is why Ukraine started looking for alternative solutions for its communications infrastructure.
“One of the reasons why I came to the Web Summit is also to look for new partners and continue to develop and engage with new partners,” Mykhailo Fedorov said.
“Communication is really crucial. We are working on this issue 24 hours a day. Russia is hitting energy infrastructures and sometimes we don’t have light at home for eight hours,” Fedorov added.
